Christmas Break

Twas the week of Christmas and all through the house the cats are still ass holes and the kids are all bored, and its cold and the dogs don't want to go outside to pee. But,I'm  happy because today  starts day one of working from home. Also, I got the job I interviewed for so all is definitely Merry and Bright. I am predicting a huge weight gain from not going to an office and no longer having to walk up and down the stairs of doom to get to the bathroom.

That being said. I am sick of Christmas music. Is it just me or does Baby It's Cold Outisde seem a little date rapeish?
"My mother will start to worry (beautiful what's your hurry?)
My father will be pacing the floor (listen to the fireplace roar)
So really I'd better scurry (beautiful please don't hurry)
But maybe just a half a drink more (put some records on while I pour)
The neighbors might think (baby, it's bad out there)
Say what's in this drink? (no cabs to be had out there)"
So whats everyone's Christmas plans? A couple of years ago after moving 6 times in 5 years and having a pretty horrible Christmas with the family of a brief marriage of mine, the girls said what they really wanted was for us to make our own Christmas traditions. So that's what we do. Since I bought my house we host Christmas with my family here. This year my sister is staying for a few extra days so we can work on the podcast too. She lost her Shih Tzu Scarlet on Saturday the vet thinks it was an allergic reaction to her vaccines. She said Thursday she coughed once and threw up once. Friday morning she woke up and was having trouble breathing. She took her straight to the vet (who dated our cousin for years) She stayed there for a day but they couldn't save her. So I am sure Heather needs to be cheered up.   I'm looking for new ideas for side dishes. Emmy has begged me to make a ham with all the Christmas trimmings. Whatever that is. I am a creature of habit and have no idea how to break the rut.

The girls are both auditioning for the same musical so the house will literally and figuratively be filled with the Sound Of Music. On the bright side its not for the same parts and since one is a Soprano and one is an Alto they sound great harmonizing together. I have no clue where they got their voices because I sound like the people from American Idol that everyone makes fun of.

When True Crime Hits Close to Home

Lets start this story by saying Saturday night I went to the movies and out to dinner with my ex husband and the girls. We got home about 11:30. I unlocked the door, came in and everything was fine. I was tired so I went right to sleep. The girls stayed up for awhile and then went to sleep. I woke up about 1:30 but got back to sleep easily, and again maybe 6:30. Nothing seemed odd but I also didn't get out of bed.

Yesterday I was home all day. I had a few chores in the back yard other than that I was inside all day until about 4ish. As I left he house to run to the store I noticed that my key wouldn't lock the deadbolt. I opened the door back up and noticed that their was tape where the deadbolt latch is. I wasn't thinking and got goo gone and cleaned it off. That's when I noticed the door locks themselves.

At some point on Saturday night/Sunday morning someone tried to break into my house. They didn't succeed that I know of because the deadbolt was latched Sunday morning. I don't have closet doors because I am paranoid and I have already checked the attic. I bought new door locks and have security alarms being delivered.

Just some updates

You may have noticed that I haven't posted in awhile. I have so much stuff going on that I haven't had much creativity left over to write. So here is an update.

  • I interviewed for a job that is pretty much what I am doing now. Fingers crossed we hear good news soon.
  • I am packing up my office and trying to close out all of my work and its been a crazy time.
  • The etsy shop is doing well and I am spending my afternoons filling orders. This has been a wonderful  thing and I am so excited to keep growing this.
  •  My high school won the state football championship. Its been a long time coming. I was following along every time someone went live. They totally shut them out 48 to nothing. Ok that's not really me being busy but it is me being a proud Alumni.
  • Its that time of year when we have a million band and choir concerts and events.
  • I'll be working from home the last two weeks of the year so I am hoping I'll be posting more often then.
  • Heather and I have a huge list of podcast topics we want to do and are planning a marathon recording day so I am researching my ass off.

How about something positive

So I wrote a long heart felt extremely well written post about my thoughts on the election. I re read it and then decided to delete it. I am done. I'm over it. I just want to focus on good things and keeping my loved ones that may have a rough 4 years safe.  I want to move on and think about happy thoughts again. Besides this blog is not a serious blog. Unless I am on my soap box about Dyslexia its pretty shallow and fluff filled around here and I like it that way.

Last year Emmy talked me into making a Happiness Jar. Its a jar we keep in the kitchen and whenever something good happens we write it down on a post it and stick it in the jar, I'm pretty sure we are going to read them out loud on New Years Eve. We've had  a wild year but its nice to see that jar and all the post it notes and know that we can sit down and read them soon and remember that no matter how bad things seem at times, there are still lots of great things going on. "Happiness can be found in even the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light." Wise old Dumbledore. He knew what he was talking about.

Like Leia, she was so sick and after a week of her meds she seems back to her old self except she is still protective of her back end. We've all been bitten lol. I am a hoover-er (is that a word?) when the kids are sick and then fur kids are no different. I am constantly walking past her and feeling her nose, feeling of her fur, and checking her gums (a sign of anemia is pale gums). She goes back next week to see her Vet but I'm impatient.

I've sold 6 shirts this week and have a craft booth ready for a craft fair next week. My sister designed a shirt and I made it and a portion of the profits go to the protestors at Standing Rock. I mentioned it a looong time ago when the blog was a baby, but I am Sioux (and obviously Irish). My great great grandfather was actually Chief John Grass. So it is important for us to give back any that we can. Visiting the reservation is always a super depressing thing. I hate that its an issue. I have so many friends who work in the oil that rely on drilling for a job, but come on don't we all deserve clean drinking water? I wish I could help people have clean water and people have jobs.

Still no word on the job front, but for some reason I am not stressed. That's soooooo  not like me. I am a worrier and a planner so I am hoping that its all gonna shake out well.

I am almost done Christmas shopping. I like to be done early so I can actually enjoy the holidays.

You may remember camping trip guy from a few months ago. I guess it didn't work out with his girlfriend because he has been texting me. I am torn between being amused that he thinks he can just pick up where we left off and being angry that he assumed I'd be waiting patiently for him. Further proof he didn't really know me at all.

My insurance co approved the migraine medicine that actually works. I am really super happy about this. I've been struggling with these more often recently and I am sure its stress triggered.

Don't tell Emmy I am telling you this, but she likes a boy....and he is shorter than her. She said its not a big deal to her, but some people at school are teasing them. Because middle school kids are the worst. She asked me how I'd handle that. I laughed and said I'm never taller than anyone. She laughed. Then I pointed out all the tall celebrities who  have dated shorter guys. Case in point anyone that dates Tom Cruise.

Mandela Effect

Update on Leia. She is walking and running, but still won't let you touch her back legs. She takes her medicine with no problem.

If you haven't listened to the podcast already (or even if you have) A new episode launched last night Emmy has been watching youtube video about the Mandela Effect for the last month or so. She followed me around for days asking me questions and then when I answered she'd shout NO! Mandela Effect. lol It was pretty funny, and led me to research the topic.

So the Mandela Effect is a phenomenon where a large group of people remember something happening that didn't. Not to give spoilers from the podcast but in Star Wars Darth Vader apparently never said "Luke, I am your father." We talk about several more and even talk about possible reasons why this happens.

I thought today would be a good time to talk about the Mandela effect since its the day after the election (although I am writing this just as the polls close) and I am sure there are people reading this that are hoping they will wake up and it will all be a horrible nightmare and that we really had other candidates to chose from other than Hillary and Donald. As Abbey said if this does not turn into a Mandela Effect she will have to tell her future kids that we don't discuss the election of 2016.

Princess Leia

If you follow  me on Instagram you probably saw that Leia is sick. She started out shivering and then she didn't want to walk and if you tried to touch her back legs she would bite. Which is sooooo not Leia. Usually she wants to be carried around in this baby sling and she is always smiling. So we knew something wasn't right.

The vet couldn't find anything wrong with her legs. She had no pep to  her which is very unusual. She just laid on the examine table  looking so sad.

After a complete blood work they determined she is highly anemic. No clue why. So she is on iron supplements twice a day and we were told to switch her food to wet. If she doesn't improve she may have to have blood transfusion. She was really close to needing one. Her hematocrit was 19 and at 15 they give blood.

We didn't figure out what was wrong with her legs, but she is content to be curled up in a sweater then wrapped in a blanket.  We go back to the vet in a week  to have her blood checked again and to check her legs out.

Ghosts of Halloweens Past

Happy Halloween Everybody. I feel like Halloween should be over. We've already had trick or treat night. I had my usual no visits. Last weekend we had state semi finals for band. As excited as I am for the season to start. I am that excited to see the season end. Its so exhausting.

While I had my sister with me for the weekend we recorded 2 podcast episodes. Episode 15 Witches is up. Its probably one of my most favorite topics. We even stopped by to visit the Witch Tree mentioned in the episode. We had so much trouble with technology. Each episode had to be recorded several times.

Since its been a busy time here, I don't really have anything to blog about today. So I am leaving you with some of my favorite Halloween posts from years past.

My Trip to Waverly Hills one of the most haunted places in the US
Making a Super Cute Fall Mantle
How to make a Cousin IT for your yard
I have some crazy superstitions. This post is about some of them
The University I attended was haunted, This post is a few of the stories.

Why can't we clone ourselves yet

This weekend was one of those times I wished I had the ability to clone myself. I have been struggling with migraines again. I have a new script but once when I took it I was extremely dizzy and wanted to sleep all day, so I am afraid to take it. So I dealt with the weekend the best I could.

Friday the PTO was hosting a dance/haunted house. I delegated the set up to the other members, because I was also preparing for Abbey's state regional marching band championship for Saturday. This consisted of making sure everything needed to feed 60+ kids was packed and then coordinating with another mom to cook all the food. 2 crock pots of chili and a crock pot of the best potato soup I've ever tasted, and 3 loaves of grilled cheese, was my responsibility.

Saturday we got up super early and finished the grilled cheese, dropped Abbey off at school, and gathered all the things I had packed the night before so it could be loaded. We debated loading the food with the supplies but I thought the food would stay warmer longer in my trunk. This turned out to be a good decision because somehow that trailer that held all of the pit equipment, props, and, and supplies for the meal was left at school. Someone went back to get it but the keys were missing, it was definitely an ordeal. But these things happen. I've been involved with marching bands in some way either a student, sister, band directors girlfriend, or mom, every years except for 6 since 1990. So I have seen some crazy things. Like an equipment bus getting a speeding ticket, getting in an accident, catching on fire, drum major podium being severely damaged, just to name a few things. These things just happen. Thankfully the kids handled it well. Another band was kind enough to loan us the instruments that we needed. Even though we were competing against them for a spot at state. They played well, looked good and are going on to state. So it did have a happy ending and they learned so much from this experience. The band directors apologized to the kids and taught them a lesson on assumption. It had a good ending.
I ordered this cute fox ear warmer from the etsy shop TheKnotandChain.

Sunday my sister was still here so we decided to record the podcast. It was great. We had fun, yet somehow it didn't save and we lost it all. No idea why we have so many issues with this. I also dropped my phone on my eye and now have a little bruise.

Thankfully this week is not as busy as last week even if we do have State to look forward to.

I forgot to mention, since the walking dead came back and everyone I know is crazy about it. That i would share this, Series creator Robert Kirkman is from Cynthiana, Kentucky. I don't watch the series but apparently Cynthiana has been mentioned and it played a bigger role in the comic and web series. I was working in Cynthiana on Friday and took this picture while I was driving around the town lost....with no cell/data service.

My trip into the great outdoors

I natured yesterday.  I'm assuming  if adult can be used as a verb then so can nature.  I am gonna tell you the truth. I thought I was gonna die. I don't venture into nature very often. I like to look at it, from the window of something climate controlled.  Abbey had been asking  to visit Lockegee Rock which is a super popular spot for college kids. One reason I am sure is because it's harder than hell  to get to, so old people don't go.

My goal was to go and record the podcast on location, yeah I forgot the super popular part. We saw several groups of people. A guy taking pics with a camera I lusted after (camera not guy) another guy playing guitar for a girl, sorority girls in dresses and heeled boots. No idea how they made it up the rock in those outfits.

So the podcast didn't get recorded. Sorry about that. But I did get some pretty pictures that reminded me how lucky I am to live in one of the prettiest states ever. Even if it's full of some crazy people.

The trail was very deceptive. I thought It was going to be a piece of cake. I hadn't been there in about 20+ years. I totally forgot what I was getting myself in to.

Oh hey look at that.  I'm about to climb you.

Please don't even ask me how I got up there. It wasn't pretty and possibly included some cussing.

Look how gorgeous!!

Oh I love you too alligator rock. I use to want someone to spray paint "I love you Holly" on an overpass or giant rock. It never happened.

Kentucky is absolutely gorgeous in Spring and Fall. Summer is hotter than the gates of hell and winter is so depressing, unless there is snow on the ground. There is something so sad about trees with no leaves.

I am afraid this will be the last nice day of fall (before all the leaves are gone) Its suppose to turn chilly this weekend. Just in time for Marching Band Regionals. Well now all I need is a trip to a pumpkin patch and some pics of me in boots drinking pumpkin spice anything and my basic bitch fall checklist will  be complete.

Whats my Name?

Remember yesterday when I asked you a million questions about my etsy shop? As I suspected the name is not great. So here is the problem I have apparently changed the name before so I now will have to submit the name change to etsy and my reason why I need the change so they can decide. Also the downside, all the good endings to AandE are taken. So here is basically what I have to chose from
CatHair and Glitter is taken (yeah I am surprised too) Sadly I can't add Creation to the end of that because I run out of space.  But I could do CHandGcreations. but my only hesitation to that is I'd assume its ran by people with the initials CHandG

I could do something related to Morehead, but I don't plan on living here forever. When the girls are out of school I expect I'll move since I really have no ties here.

What do you think?

I made this banner for the shop. I'm open to suggestions.
In case I haven't said it enough I absolutely appreciate all the feedback you are giving me.

I finished my Etsy class last night. I got some great news too. Because I finished the class I am able to set up at a small business fair in a few weeks. They will show a power point of my shop and tell my story and then people can stop by my table and buy stuff if they want. I am really super excited about this. The guy over the fair  said when they did this in Louisville most of the shops sold out.

Help me grow

I've been taking an Etsy class. Tonight is my last night. Its been extremely informative one thing we have talked about is our brand. Now not gonna lie,  I have been confusing logos and design for branding, for all the years I have been blogging. For the record I never knew what the brand of this blog was. I still don't. I have no clue who my audience is because everyone seems to be from varied backgrounds.

The thing we talked about in class that really hit it home for me was Disney. You know the mouse and the Princess and that is just part of their brand. The Disney brand is that dreams come true, family fun, and fairy tales. The mouse and the princesses are just decoration.

I still don't know what the brand of this blog is and I think that's OK. It was never my intention to monetize this or make it anything other than a place to write what pops into my head and maybe connect with other bloggers that are cool. It has done just that. I feel like I come here and write to my friends. Beyond that I am just a mom who has a love of glitter, saving animals and uses fuck as a comma in everyday conversation.

I really want my Etsy shop to be more, especially since my job is ending and I am pretty uncertain of what will happen after that. I have an idea that I am kinda excited about. I will need about 800 for the class and I would like to have the cushion of the shop in case what I find doesn't have the same level of pay.  So I am trying to do it right. I have read so much stuff on small businesses my head is spinning. Don't worry I will tell you all about my idea and the class needed to do that job once I have more details on what all is required.

I want my shop to be as varied as I am. When you visit my shop I want you to get a sense of who I am. One thing the teacher kept asking us was, who am I selling to? Well I don't know. I enjoy doing lots of creative things and don't think I'd be happy just making Crazy Cat Lady shirts, I have ADD and would quickly burn out on that. So what can I do? I can make nearly anything out of vinyl, glitter, some wood stuff. Is varied the way to go or should I just focus on one type of thing? Also I have a total fear of rejection so I struggle with promotion. Even though I have people contacting me to make them stuff I just worry.

Here are some of the things I've made.
A cute glitter cup with my blog name.

I can do any sticker and any color. These are great for laptops and car windows.
I made these for the girls to wear to the opening of Star Wars
I learned how to do glitter on mugs. Can you have enough glitter?
Monograms are pretty popular here. Abbey hates them though.
I made several of these shirts for other band moms. I love glitter (shocker I know) so I like to use it on shirts as often as I can.
A glitter straw mason jar. I could add any wording and tons of glitter options
More monogram stickers.
This was a mommy and son set. Mommy is expecting, I love the little pumpkin with feet inside.
These can say literally anything. In case you can't tell its a bottle opener for the wall.

Here is the link to my Etsy shop. If you have time could you visit it and then answer some of the questions I have below.
 Abbey designed the logo.

1. What do you think about the name? I changed the name of the blog about 4 times until I landed on Cat Hair and Glitter which is sooo me. I wanted to use that for the Etsy shop but Abbey said she wouldn't want to buy something from a shop named Cat Hair. So I chose A&E Production after the girls. But I second guess myself on that all the time, and Etsy only lets you change your name twice so I need to be super sure.

2. Looking at the shop what would you change? Add? Take Away? What is your first impression?

3. What kinds of thing do you purchase from Etsy?

4. What are some ways businesses market themselves that you think may work for me? I sponsored my own podcast last week and that let to several views.

5. Making the glitter ornaments is lots of fun, what are some things you'd like to see on them? I've tried to do some mock ups of things but I just don't know what people want. Also, I think I have over priced these. When I look on Etsy its within the price range of others, I just feel it may be too much. What do you think?

6. Would Blogging related things go over well, like shirts etc?

7. I have made an instagram account for the shop It would make me super happy if you could follow it. a.and.e.production. So far that's it but if I end up changing the shop name that will change as well.

8. What do you think of Black Friday Sales/Cyber Monday? Does that make a difference in your purchasing decision and if it does what kind of discount are you looking for Percent off or free shipping?

Thanks so much for reading all of this lengthy post and if you decide to answer a question or all of them I appreciate that a lot. I just really want to do this right, and I am way out of my element.

As part of my nomination I was asked to answer 10 questions. Here are my 10 questions.

Why did you start blogging? I had been an avid reader of blogs and felt like hey I should start one too.
If you were a time traveler, would you go forwards or backwards? I would absolutely go forward and then remember winning lottery numbers, super bowls, world series so I can go back to my time and bet money on them.
What is your idea of a great evening? Home with nothing to do except watch TV
Who would you like to be stuck in a lift with? Someone nice
What scares you, I mean really scares you? Serial Killers, True Crime  stuff. People are seriously scary.
If you were a cartoon character which one would you be? I've been described as Tinker Bell on more than one occasion.

If you won the lottery (or came into a large sum of money) what would you go out and buy first? Pay my house off, then my car. After that probably both of those for my sister.
When you're in the car alone (if you don't drive then think of a similar circumstance where you're alone with a radio) what would you turn the radio on to? True Crime Podcasts
Star Wars or Star Trek? I have the imperial symbol on my car. I have been Team Vader since I was probably 3 and realized what Star Wars was.
Gravy or no gravy? I like Gravy as long as its good gravy. Being from the south we have breakfast gravy and dinner gravy. I like both but suck at making both.

There it is. If anyone else wants to answer these questions go ahead and put your answers in the comments or post them on your blog.

Old house issues

There are some things I love about living in an old house. The original hardwood floors, the archs, fire place, and even the wall oven that makes me think of the Brady Bunch . But there are things I dislike too like the limited closet and storage space like the tiny breaker box, that the washer in in an alcove in the kitchen and the dryer is in the hallway. No joke that is the set up. They are roughly 5 feet apart but still annoy. I am usually able to ignore the dislikes but last week I felt like packing up and moving. Ok not really, but I did feel like screaming.

The kitchen and living room are run on the same breaker, except for the stove and oven, and wall that has the TV plugged in to it. Oh and its a 15 amp breaker which is apparently insanely small, because everyone that has looked at it has commented on it. Last week the kitchen breaker threw. It would not come back on even when i turned to flip it back on. I ran an extension cord from Emmy's room to power the fridge and my ex husband stopped by on his way home and looked at it. Then he came back the next day and replaced the breaker. He texted me to say it didn't fix the problem and I needed to find an electrician.

I found one who came over, flipped the switch and it all came back on. He said the wires probably got overheated and because the kitchen is pulling so much electricity with just the fridge. So I am leery every time I turn anything in the kitchen on.

At least it was a positive ending to an otherwise really stressful and crappy week.

Summer Goals Check In/ Fall Goal Setting

Remember several months ago when I set summer goals for myself? Well I actually remembered the deadline. I think it helped to pick my moms birthday as the end date and my sisters (today!) as the report back date. I only set 5 goals for myself, lets see how well I did.

1. Blog more. Nope, nope, nope. I am averaging one post a week. I really just have a lot on my plate right now. Everyday this week I have been away from home 12 hours. Its Marching Band season for us, and if you are a former band member you know how busy you stay. What has really hit us is that our props for the show couldn't be finished by the people who were going to do it. A local business offered to do them for 1500. When I was asked my opinion (I'm an officer) I just couldn't agree to that. We have kids that still need horns (for concert) that just seemed like a better way to spend money. So I came up with an idea and agreed to work on the props myself. I've done that everyday after work. I'm hoping we will be done tomorrow.

2. Read/Comment more. I am not great at this either, I am trying to be better. I usually manage to comment a bunch in one day. I am hoping this improves when I get my life more organized. Which I am working on and will hopefully be a post soon.

3. Finish building a fence. Guys I worked my ass off on this and did successfully build this. I have decided next Spring I am going to build myself a deck. I am that confident in my skills now.

4. Walk. I actually did this. I can't believe I did it, but I did manage to walk 60 miles.

5. Set a budget Nope. Didn't do this either.

So really I only fully accomplished 2 out of 5. That's pretty crappy percentage.

So Lets set some Fall goals. I think the end date for these goals will be December 1.

1. Set a budget- Lets try this again

2. Work on organization- my organization hasn't improved from the last post. I still can't find shit.

3.  Paint a room- I have several things that need painted and I know that I will not be able to get it all done, but I think I can accomplish a room.

4. Etsy/Shirts-I've been doing stuff for my friends and family and kinda half hearted with etsy, but I think I am going to focus on it more strongly.

5. Concentrate more on blogging-Actual posting and commenting more. I am hoping this goes hand and hand with the getting more organized. I don't feel like I am using my time wisely.

Organization Help

I bet the post title made you think I was here to dispense awesome wisdom about how I stay organized? Well you have come to the wrong place. Its actually the opposite. I am spiraling out of control.

I use to be organized. People use to joke about my organization skills. I would read books and magazines on the subject for fun. Then I moved 6 times in 5 years and felt my organization slip away little by little with each move.

I've been stationary for two years now. I had hoped that the skills I lost would return once I was stable and not living like a nomad. That hasn't been the case. In the last week I have misplaced My favorite pair of jeans, a list with the details of a vinyl decal order that would  be 60 extra dollars of income if I can find it, 90 dollars in fundraiser cash. I was a week past the deadline to submit my tax stuff to the student loan people. I did however, find my tablet that has been missing for a year. (literally a year) So, little blessings I guess. I also found Hannah's change of address form from July. Then lost it again, before I could take it to the post office.

I am at the point where I can admit. I need help. My life has apparently reached a point that I can't keep up with even the most basic of things. Do any of you have any tips? Like real tips not, here is a pretty picture of a jar labeled with whats inside. I have stuff like that covered. I just don't have a grasp on the day to day household/life management.

You can't even make this shit up. I thought by not saying anything until there was a date for a date set, that I wouldn't jinx things. But I realized its not a matter of jinxing things Its just how my life goes.

In case you haven't guessed there was no camping trip/date. He called me late the night before he was suppose to arrive. I was excited, he didn't seem to be, then the story came out....

He had been talking to someone where he lives and decided to make things work with her. So he wasn't coming here, and we weren't going on a date. It was high school all over again. Only I handled it differently. In school I got mad. This time I felt nothing. Literally an emotional void. He kept apologizing and saying how bad he felt but that it just happened. Lots of blah blah blah.

My only thought was well of course this is what is going to happen. So I said ok, thanks for letting me know. He asked if we could still talk as friends. I said no I don't think so, and he offered to take me out to dinner to "make it up to me" I definitely said that wouldn't work.

I was ready to be done before he came out of the blue, tracking me down, texting me. I think I will just slide back into my fox hole and ignore all romantic encounters. It less stressful there.

Happy Camper

I've been talking to someone. We have our first official date this coming weekend, we are camping. My track record with camping is not a good one. I did it once, hated the people I was with and got pneumonia. I'm willing to give it another try though.

I've known him awhile. Like since 1990. We kissed once in 1992 and he immediately got a girlfriend that wasn't me and they stayed  together until after high school. We lost touch after school although I did talk to his brother several times over the years.

7 years ago I was walking down the street, I was also going through a divorce not that it means anything to the story. I passed him and we both stopped and turned around  to look at each other, then started walking again. A few days later the same thing, only this time we stopped to talk. Then I didn't see or hear from him again.

Fast forward several weeks ago I spent my birthday on the lake with some friends I had been in band with. One of them said he had been asking for my number. I gave it to him. He called a few days later and  he has called and texted every day since.

After a boyfriend that would get mad at me for saying I missed him, because that somehow means I didn't think he should have been doing whatever it was that kept us apart. Also, one that would come to my town and go to the bar not a mile from my house but never call or text and certainly never stop in to say hi, Its kinda neat to have someone that texts me good morning first thing every day, and calls me every night to hear my voice.

I'm really trying not to get too excited about this. If my dating life has taught me anything its I shouldn't trust my instincts.

So, what does someone wear camping?

Its been awhile since I have done a Straight Outta Kentucky post. That isn't because stupid things haven't happened here. Mostly its because I tell myself to remember to post about it, and the totally forget.

Kinda like this story. I knew you guys would love it, and then I forgot about it. But, as fate would have it, it showed back up in my fb news feed and I miraculously remembered to share it.

Back in July a couple had taken some pills and were driving down the road looking for a place to swim. They were lost ad wandered down a dead end road. The car they were driving ran off the road and hit a utility pole. But sad for them, they also turned over a bee hive and were attacked by over 300 bees.

You have to watch the short video the eye witness account is what really makes the story hysterical.

Hot Tub Necessities

I bought a hot tub. Well the above ground pool version of a hot tub. Its an inflatable, but it seats 4 and is so deep I can't actually sit in it without it being over my head.  It seems  to heat well and the bubbles are crazy good.

But buying the Hot tub I realized I can't just have a hot tub and be done with it. It needs other things too. Like

Floating Waterproof speakers- How can you sit in the tub without music on? I don't think you can so I've been looking at floating speakers. I love this one because of the lights although the reviews are kinda terrible.

New Beach Towels. Even after one day of hot tub ownership I can tell you its gonna be bad news for my towels. 4 people apparently need 6 towels.

Cup Holders. We have a no food rule, and Emmy made a no pet rule although I am pretty sure none of the animals wants to get in with us.

Table for phones/cooler/towels. I have a few low tables that are fine if you are sitting in a chair but don't really work well if you are in the hot tub because  you have to lean out so far to reach them.

So basically I got a really good deal on the hot tub which is great, because I have some shopping to do.

I hate changes

I don't handle change well. I would definitely call myself a slow to warm up. Even if its a change I like and should be excited about it takes me forever to get use to the change.

This week I had two big events hit me and I am just not ready to accept either one of them yet.

My neighbor died. We had been busy with work and band camp. Our days were long and I didn't notice that I hadn't seen her outside in awhile. It popped into my head one day that I hadn't seen her. Which to be honest was not uncommon. Sometimes I'd see her inspecting her flowers, or getting in or out of her car. The last conversation I had with her was before my birthday, she told me she enjoyed watching me build my fence and that I was welcome to borrow her tree trimmers. She gave my girls little decorative bears.

We thought that was odd, but she was old. I thought she was mid 70's. Although she got around great and lived alone. Still drove herself to the store and to church. Still yelled at our neighbor across the street when they did stupid things.

Sunday, a week ago, I walked outside to a scene. An ambulance, fire truck, two police cars and the rescue squad were outside. I asked what they were doing and they said welfare check on my neighbor. A few minutes later the coroner showed up. I couldn't stand to watch them put her in the van. She was absolutely the best neighbor ever. When her obituary came out I learned she was not mid 70's that she had just turned 90. That she and her husband who preceded her in death were high school sweethearts.

Yesterday when I woke up I noticed pink flowers had bloomed in my yard that had never bloomed before. I like to think it was her way of saying bye. I always told her how gorgeous her yard was and how i was jealous. She offered me cuttings, but I was too embarrassed to tell her I had no idea how to get a cutting or what to do with it once i had it.

Friday I went to open house at the middle school and learned that my children's favorite teacher has moved on  to a new job. Its a once and a lifetime teaching opportunity for her. She will be the choir director at a arts magnet school in Lexington (an hour away) so we are devastated to see her leave, we have to be happy for her because this is wonderful for her. She is such a great teacher she deserves this.

So I made the new director a bunch of goodies. No I am not above sucking up

The girls were horrified so I have to pass it off as welcoming him on behalf of the PTO

What House Are You In

Did you know July 31 is Harry Potter's birthday? Did you know there is a new book Harry Potter and The Cursed Child, that was released the same day?

Abbey and I went to a Harry Potter Release party Saturday night. She had to wear a shirt announcing to the world what house she was sorted in to.

I kept saying I felt like I was Slytherin, I had never officially been sorted, so Abbey sent me the link and I officially got sorted and surprise, surprise, I am Slytherin.

We are major Harry Potter nerds. Actually we are just big nerds and Harry Potter is just one of our outlets. I've read all the books, watched all the movies, and just couldn't wait for the new book to come out.

Have you watched Harry Potter or read the books? What house are you in?

Donating to Charity While Walking

Remember way back when I set goals for the summer? One goal I set was to walk 60 miles. So far I have walked 20. I am struggling with a ankle injury. I sprained it a few years ago, and somehow re-injured it. I have no idea what I did, but I'm back in an ankle brace.

One way I have pushed myself to walk in this awful humid and hotter than hell weather is I downloaded an app that donates money to a charity of my choice. I've been picking the ASPCA, because I want to save all the animals.

Its super easy. Download Charity Miles. Pick your charity. Then pick if its indoor/outdoor walking/running or biking. That's it. When you are done click the stop button and it records what you walked. I have an iphone, but its available for androids also.

This has really inspired me to get out and walk at least a mile an evening. If you are playing Pokemon turn the app on as you head out to catch Pokemon. Its a win/win.

Holly Hits the Big One

Today is my favorite Hollyday. Its the big one. The one I've dreaded for years. So in order to make the most out of a sad round number I wanted to do something fun. So I arranged a baby's first birthday style photo shoot, and because I am spamming you with pictures today. I'm doing a 20 things you may not know about me. Yeah I know it should be 40 things but I don't know if there is 40 things you guys don't know about me, and 40 is the new 20 (x2).

1. Its my dream to open an animal rescue.
2. I have plans to move to Tenessee when my kids have graduated.
3. I use to be painfully shy.
4. I don't think I will ever get remarried even if I find the love of my life. I'm just really set in my ways.
5. I am pretty sure I will be painting my living room pink.

6. I want a pet fox.
7. Polar Bears are my favorite bear.
8. I was a competitive swimmer in high school and still obsessively watch swimming during the olympics.
9. My new netflix obsession is The Great Food Truck Race.
10. I am not a fan of sweets, but I do love icecream. I didn't eat the cupcake. I gave it to Abbey.

11. I can't live without Dr. Pepper. Its almost always the first thing I reach for when I wake up.
12. You may know I have a million cats, but black cats are my fave. Shih Tzu's are my favorite dogs, although a certain Pomeranian puppy has won my heart.
13. I always have sunglasses on my head. I fear wrinkles and the best way to prevent eye wrinkles is sunglasses.
14. I've had skin cancer I use to lay in the tanning bed a few times a week.
15. I have a cow tattoo

16.  I was a vegan in high school. No products from animals at all. It lasted about 2 months before I cracked and ate bacon. I think my parents were trying to starve me into caving. I lost so much weight because I had nothing to eat.
17. I technically have a step brother, but we don't claim each other because we were both married when our parents got married.
18. Thanks to the BTK killer I am scared to let my dogs out after dark to pee.
19. I don't like beer or wine. But I love Jager (straight) and Sex on the Beach (the drink)
20. I actually don't like  real beaches because dark water is gross (fish poop) and sand  annoys me.
