2015 Predictions Revisted

Last year instead of making resolutions I made predictions. You can read about it here. I thought since the year is winding down I would see how well I did. I'm actually proud of myself. I didn't succeed at them all, but good enough.

Cross 20 items off my 101 list. Oh this poor list. I forget it about it most of the time. Even with that, I managed to cross off 11 things.

Finally get all the rooms in my house painted. I hate painting and I am so slow at it. But I can't resist how a room looks with a fresh coat of paint. I did the living room, hallway and the bathroom. I did the Kitchen too but that was at the end of 2014. I still have all the bedrooms to finish. Emmy's room is suppose to be next.

Finally setting up a domain. Yay I did mange to do this.WhooHoo

Fully commit to Swag Bucks. I tried I really did. I just couldn't seem to remember to watch the videos and after doing several pre surveys to be told i didn't qualify I got discouraged and gave up. I did discover a couple other ways to save money this year and I will share with you in 2016.

Celebration Jar. Lord help me the easiest freakin' thing on this list and I still haven't done it. You can bet I'll be adding this to the 2016 predictions.

Did you have predictions/resolutions for 2015? How did you do at keeping them?

5 Things to Do WIth Glitter Wrapping Paper

Happy Christmas Eve, eve. If you're like me you are putting the finishing touches on the Christmas wrapping and preparing for company. After wrapping all your presents, if you happen to have some left  over wrapping paper, don't throw it out. I am going to share with you what I did with my left over glitter paper from last year. Who am I kidding I say left over but glitter paper is hard as crap to get tape to stick to. So it sucks for actually wrapping  presents,  but it is so good for decorating with. So I bought it because it was pretty and glittery and I am like a moth to flame with anything glitter.
When I re decorated my bathroom this year I knew I wanted something glittery, because I always want something glittery. I tried gluing glitter on things and that was a mess and the glitter really didn't stick well. That's when it hit me to try the wrapping paper I had stuck in a closet.  You can read about the bathroom makeover here.

Wall Art I printed the words out on regular printer paper and then traced them onto the glitter and then cut them out. Its attached to a canvas using spray adhesive. I just painted the canvas black. This has been on the wall for almost a year and is still holding tight.

Liner in a Hutch or Book Shelf: This is what my hutch looked like. It was already painted black, but after a catastrophe when I attempted to paint it red, I gave up. All I had in the house was chalk board paint. That turned out well because the girls love writing on it. But I still hated the inside. With the help of a little glitter wrapping paper it was transformed into a hot chocolate bar.

Here is the after Its so cute I'm thinking about leaving it up even after Christmas.

Cup Holder: I use it to hold makeup brushes but you could also use it to hold pens. I took a plastic cup and rolled the paper around it. Like I was wrapping a cylinder. I used spray adhesive. I cut the extras off the top. We use this every day and it still looks great.
Decorating a Pumpkin: Silver is the color of the awareness ribbon for Dyslexia. So this when we decorated pumpkins. We painted a pumpkin black using craft paint and the stem is spray painted. (Tip do that before you paint the pumpkin) I traced the awareness ribbon onto the paper and cut it out. Its attached with spray adhesive. I swear I couldn't live without that stuff.

Outlet Cover After I glitterfied my bathroom I couldn't just leave my outlet face plates plain white. I laid the cover on the paper and traced the holes. Cut it all out and you guessed it attached it using spray adhesive. As with everything else it has held up great and we use this switch a million times a day.
If you don't have glitter wrapping paper I suggest stocking up the day after Christmas when everything goes on sale. I know I will be grabbing all the color varieties. You just never know what craft opportunities will appear.

May the Force Be With You

No spoiler alert here. I still haven't seen the movie. But I'm hoping I will get to see it this week. I love Star Wars. I have seen all the movies. My ex even proposed during the movie. After that turned south it was hard to watch them for several years, but I got over it just in time for episode 1. Seriously when I was little I wanted to be Princess Leia. I would even braid my hair around my ears. Then I grew up and became Team Vader. Abbey swears if she has kids she is naming one Leia, and I am ok with that.

So anyway, I just wanted to pop in to share our family pictures and The shirts I made Abbey and Hannah to wear when they watched Star Wars. Because they had to have something different.
Nothing says Merry Christmas Festivus like a  light saber battle to the death
She said everyone look excited...This is the best we could come up with
My children are weird
I didn't make these shirts but now that I know how, I may never buy a graphic shirt again.
Our version of a death star.....a mirrored ball.

In case you can't read Abbey's it says May the (formula for Force) be with you. We like to take Nerdy to a whole different level around here. Her initials spell ATOM so she has the symbol for an atom on everything instead of a monogram. That people is what happens when a chemist has a child with someone who has a sense of humor.

Today is my Monday and Friday. I am so excited I don't know what to do with myself.

My Christmas Decorations

My Christmas tree situation has been ongoing since Thanksgiving. I put my tree up that night. As I have done every year since birth. I didn't even have ornaments on the tree yet when the cats decided that was a great place to play. It lasted about 20 minutes before I got tired and just took the tree down. It was my dream tree. 9 foot pre lit super full. I just never had a house that could hold it. Last year it blocked the walk way to the hallway. The year before that I could only have the front half folded down. So when the cats started to play in it. I threw in the towel and took the tree goodwill.
I looked high and low for a pencil tree that I liked (and that the girls liked too) We've found nothing we can agree on. I thought I'd be ok without one but as I wrap presents there is no place to put them that seems right. After thinking about it I came up with this idea. Its two sparkly garlands, and green felt. Its attached to the wall with clear push pins. Which I don't recommend if you have small kiddies at home. The ornaments are mirrored music notes and are hanging from the pushpins and I chose to use ones I don't care about, because if the cats knock them off and they get broken I haven't lost anything.
I am loving my mantle this year. Its actually the reason I bought this house. As soon as I saw it, I imagined it decorated for Christmas.
Its a glitter explosion and I love it. I kinda want to leave it like this until Spring. In case you are wondering about the stockings. The dogs all get a green one and the cats all get a green one and then Hannah (Abbey's girlfriend) gets her own stocking as well.

I made these cones, I took pre made cones from Hobby Lobby (next year I want to make my own cones too) I wrapped them with the super cheap garland. I think it was dollar tree garland. Its thin and easy to wrap. The other garland is silver again its the super cheap one.
This is mason jars with while batting shoved in the bottom. The decorations are floral picks. I picked them up at various stores. Mostly Hobby Lobby and Wal Mart. Its all really glittery.

Lastly, I want to leave you with a tip. I wanted my house to look ready for Christmas and not just  like I threw some things together. I did this by wrapping all my pictures with wrapping  paper and adding a glittery bow. It makes your everyday house look like a Santa Workshop. I got the bows to stick by hot gluing them onto the wrapping paper. I chose wrapping paper that matched the colors of the room so it felt like it was suppose to be there.

The Town That Stole Christmas

I have no idea how I turned out to be a mostly level headed semi adult. My hometown must have been very jealous of the attention my current town was receiving over the Kim Davis saga and had to get in on the ridiculous action  too.

You can read about it here. An elementary school was doing the play Charlie Brown Christmas and a family complained about the reference to GOD so the school board had them alter it to take out all reference to GOD. Parents have been protesting outside the board office all week.

What annoys me the most about it is that the board office is beside the middle and high school. This is finals week for the high school at least. My teacher friends have been complaining all week about the noise. If they cared so much about their children's education seems to me that they would take the protest somewhere else so their kids can focus.

I had so many Christmasy blog posts planned and then life happened. Actually what happened was I decided oh wouldn't it be fun to make some presents. So every evening after work I have been working on gifts, or attending Christmas concerts. Its been kinda crazy. I can't wait to share what I've been working on though.

I decided not to put up a tree. After I gave mine away, I looked all over for a slim tree that I liked. I couldn't find any so I decided to make one. I'll post pictures of it tomorrow.

What I'm Listening To

I do a lot of driving and when I'm not on the road, I am in an office by myself. That can get lonely FAST. So to combat the quiet I have been listening to podcasts. Some are funny, some are inspiring and some are creepy and follow crimes.

This is what I am listening to right now.

Serial Season 2:
In case you missed season 1 serial is a story that is told week by week. Season 2 is the story of Bowe Berghdal. The soldier that walked off gis post into enemy territory.

Undisclosed:
This is a follow up podcast to Serial Season 1. Its three lawyers dissecting the evidence of the case against Adnan

Truth & Justice:
This looks at that case from another angle. The host is a fire investigator and uses his knowledge of investigation on the case.

From Scratch:
Each episode is a look into the life of someone in the field of business, arts, or social that have been :
pioneers in their field.

Missing Maura Murray:
I stumbled upon this podcast. Its about a missing college student. T here is basically no evidence in her disappearance.  I really don't know why I listened to it.

Clearing The Clutter:
This is about tips on organization and clearing clutter in your home, work, life and mind.

If I Were You:
This is a hysterical advice podcast from two friends. Sometimes I don't know if the advice is real or made up but either way, its funny.

So if you find yourself on a long car ride this Holiday Season or just have some time on your hands. I recommenced all of these podcasts.

7 Things I Want For Christmas

Well its that time of year again. The time when people keep asking you if your ready for Christmas, and what do you want for Christmas.  I never know what to ask for, because as an adult with a job, I just buy myself what I want. I know that doesn't give much room for surprises from other people, but I'm sure I'll love whatever I'm given. Unless its the cousin of the bright orange jungle print MC Hammer style pants my uncles wife bought me one year. For the record I always hated her and the pants proved to me that she hated me in return. Anyway, when I saw 23 things my boyfriend better not get me for Christmas I couldn't help but click the link and see if I could get some ideas. Spoiler alert. She is a spoiled brat. Things like he better not her a gift card, fake earrings, an engagement ring INSTEAD of an actual present, nothing handmade, the list goes on. I'll let you read it for yourself. But it got me thinking. Am I just old? Because I loved gift cards. That way I can pick out exactly what I want. I have been making shirts the last couple of weeks so lots of people on my Christmas list are getting shirts. Here is what a couple of the shirts I've made look like.

Sorry you have to turn your head on this one. They were on my phone.
So sad for people on my list that are getting something handmade and something that is clothing. Although I think they are a million times better than the jungle  pants.

So in case you were wondering. This is what I want for Christmas.

1. HTV Vinyl so I can make more shirts. This has become  my newest obsession and I am LOVING it. I work on shirts almost every evening after work.

2. Adopt a shelter animal. It doesn't matter if its a cat or a dog, just adopt and then let me know you did. I don't have room for any new additions, but I still want to save them all.

3. Donate to an animal rescue organization in my name. Or sign up for Amazon Smile and link it to a rescue. Mine is linked to Bluegrass Shih Tzu Rescue. They get a portion of everything I spend on Amazon and at no additional cost to me.

4. A silicone computer keyboard. Do you have any idea how much cat hair...and glitter my keyboard has inside it.

5. Blank shirts for me to create with.

6. To have my craft stuff completely sorted and organized. If this doesn't magically happen come Christmas morning its going to have to go on my new years resolution to do list.

7. Dr. Pepper can you ever have too much of it

Well that is it. I am pretty easy to please. What's on your Christmas list this year?

Do I Need a Christmas Tree

a few years ago I bought my dream tree. An extremely full 9 foot prelit tree. It was gorgeous and I got it after Christmas for only 20 dollars. I didn't think a bout the fact that at the time I was living with my boyfriend in his house that didn't have 9 foot ceilings. We moved soon after that Christmas. That's its own sad blog posts.

Last year I put the tree up at my new house. It was everything I thought it would be, except I have exactly 9 foot ceilings. and not enough space for a  tree that full.

This year. I put my dream tree up and within a couple of minutes I had a cat in it. A few minutes later I had two cats fighting in it.

So the tree came down. I still can't decide what to do. I have two small trees sitting on the hearth but I want a Christmas tree that doesn't resemble a shrub.
So I'm trying to decide what I want. A pencil tree would fit beside the fire place really well, but I do still like the look of a  fuller tree. Maybe just not as full as the 9 footer. The cats will probably want to play in it no matter what size I get. The girls are torn. Abbey thinks the mini trees are fine. Emmy wants a white one. I can't decide, what would you do?

Best Ever Hot Chocolate Bar

I'm warning you, there will be a Christmas overload here for the next several week. Aside from my birthday which is my favorite Hollyday. Christmas come a seriously close second. When I think I have no self restraint I remind myself that I don't start decorating in July. That right there is proof that I can be self disciplined.

It is unseasonably warm here (and I am NOT complaining) but that hasn't stopped us from drinking our weight in hot chocolate. In the past our set up was not kid friendly. Everything was stored in various cabinets and I had to make every cup. That got old fast.

This year I turned our hutch into a hot chocolate bar. I asked the girls what they wanted to put in their hot chocolate and then set it all out so they can easily get it when they want a cup. I've had to refill the peppermint m&m's a few times now. They are a big hit.

What makes this the best ever hot chocolate bar? You can add anything you want. Be as creative and adventurous and you want. We are pretty basic so we picked marshmallows, pepermint sticks, candy canes, white and milk chocolate chips, and peppermint m&m's.

I stored it all in cute mason jars and of course added some cute Christmas themed mugs.

I seriously recommend setting on up. It doesn't have to take up much space, and definitely makes making a cup easier.
