What annoys me about back to school time

Its that time of year again. The time when school supplies are heavily stocked in all the stores. I get excited because I have a weird love of any office/organizing product. Greg avoids stores because he doesn't want to be reminded that his summer is over and he has to go back to work. Here is what annoys me about this time of year.

Walmart (because thats the only store we have) has TONS of stuff I want to buy. I lovingly touch all the glittery binders and rhinestone paper clips. but I don't feel like I buy anything yet. The school won't release the class lists until August 1. Which is one week before school starts. This means when I know what supplies are needed I am fighting with every other parent in the county to get the prettiest products. Then the brands I want are sold out and no body wants roseart crayons because they are too waxy and doesn't color well.

The solution.....put a supply list per grade/school out so parents can  shop all summer long when they find good deals. This would mean that I wouldn't be fighting for the cool stuff and I can stock up on extras for the classroom because I'm not forced to buy everything at once. See its a win/win situation.

the Holly awards meet the nominees

I mentioned when the Emmy nominations came out that I either never watch TV or I just have weird taste (or both) because I had no clue who half of the nominees were.  I wanted to have my nominees for the new Emmy's AKA the Holly's by my birthday. Things happen though. I'm finally ready to unveil the nominees. Winners will be announced the day after the Emmy's. Should I open up voting?

101/1001 update

I don't usually post on Saturdays. Since I didn't post yesterday...I went to a conference in the morning and then met up with Greg and his new very blonde and young assistant for dinner. Why couldn't they have hired his friend from college that has a wife I went to high school with? It would make things fun. Oh well gotta make the best of it, or so I'm told.

Anyway while I have you here. I should ask you if you noticed I have a new Navigation bar? I had the best intentions of posting all my pinterest failures, but life happens and it never got done. What I did instead was cross a few things off my 101/1001 list
  • Fix header which is really the navigation bar I wanted fixed not the actual header
  • add easy access to the list
  • add coolers
I owe all this to Shannon Page of Shannon Page Design. I owe her the beautiful design. But I really can't brag about her enough. She not only fixed the navigation bar so I can cross three things off my list she was fast and sweet. If you are looking for a blog face lift you should definitely use her.

I've also been working on redoing the girls bedroom. Pretty much the whole house needs a face lift. Its been a bachelor pad for waaaay too long. I'm not finished with there room but I am off to a great start. Its at least painted and the tree silhouette that they have been dying for is up. The dresser needs painted. Abbey wants to make quotes to hang and the tv needs hung and I have some birds to go around the tree. But here is a sneak peak of what's going on.
Another thing on my list was have a kick ass Halloween costume. I found the BEST one yesterday. Its not actually a costume, but I'm going to wear it anyway and it will be AWESOME!! It also should inspire me to lose some of the weight I've gained.
I'm linking up with Bourbon and Glitter and you should too. Go make yourself a list and link up on Saturdays.

OMG its Hollyday

Picture this.... I'm driving home from our main office (I'm in a field office) Its about 200 miles away. I get into the county that my office is in and my gas light comes on......about 5 miles later my car starts to shake like its  missing. All my lights come on, the gas light, the battery light, everything! and then I lose power. I get it off the road, turn the car off, call Greg and freak out. Then try it all again. I get only a few feet and it loses power again. I pull over and turn it off. Greg comes to save me and we realize that the problem is that my belt came off. So I call the tow truck, then realize if I had called my insurance company that it would be covered, oh well. They towed my baby off. She should be fixed soon. But it sucks. I didn't get to work on my HOLLY award post because of the car issue so please bear with me. I promise a HOLLY award nomination post by Monday. See yet another  reason I need to schedule posts.  A word of advice, If your car starts acting crazy and you need to pull over, check your insurance policy before you call the tow truck because it may be covered.

Hope everyone is having a happy Hollyday. For the record I'm 21 today.
Its days like today that makes me realize why scheduling posts is a good idea. I have tons of half finished posts scattered around that really need to be finished.

So whats with today. I may have mentioned that We live in a different county than the school the girls go to. Its usually not a problem, because I pass both of their schools to get to work. I drop them off and pick them up when its my days. But with band camp time comes late practice. I'm completely starting my day late since I know I will be working late today. But it also means Greg has company staying with us for 2 weeks because its an instructor for his camp. Long story short....we stayed up late and I didn't get anything written and now my day is starting late and I feel slightly overwhelmed.

So there is my excuse on why you have nothing decent to read from me. On a side note I really do think I want to change the name of the blog. I use Poppy as my name when I play trivia or anything really. I'm thinking something along those lines.  Restless and indecisive is a weird combination. Since you are cheated out of a good post, You should come over, we will crack open an ice cold can of WATER.

Some big baby news

oh no, not with  me. Today is the 6 year anniversary of me having my plumbing removed. Not to be all TMI but have your yearly pelvic exam.....and if your dr says that you may want to think about having your stuff removed.Go for it. Best decision I ever made. I have Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) its a not very fun condition that has a side effect means you have lots of cysts on your ovaries. Its hard if not impossible to get pregnant. That's the the gist of it. There is other things too. Like Blood Sugar issues. Mine tends to be low, like super low at times. But other people I know with it have high BS. weight gain (which I'm dealing with now), and facial hair. Ok there I said it. I am a slave to waxing and plucking. Its annoying but necessary. If you have it or suspect you do send me a message we can chat about it. Seriously though recovery wasnt too bad. I just slept a lot, hot  flashes for 6 months. Now I never have to worry about PMS. Yup its a good trade.

Speaking of weight gain. I'm tired of being fat. I hate that I am wearing Spanx today. I hate that most of the time I feel like a sausage squeezed into a casing. So today on my way to work I stopped and bought this.
Its a portable bike thingy. Golds Gym calls it a body cycle.
I wanted a recumbent bike but I have no room for one at home. I saw this and thought it would be cool to keep under my desk at work and pedal while I work. I've had it maybe 45 minutes and I will tell you getting your feet to stay on the pedals is hard it has a strap but my feet are small so it does nothing for me. I think having a Velcro strap would be better. It also slides some. That isn't a huge deal but it is a minor flaw.
Oh yeah back to the baby news. Kate is in labor. Everyone in the world is on baby watch. I am on Suri watch this is the day that Suri's burn book has been dreading. I can't wait to read her reaction to the birth.

i'm melting.....I'm melting....oh what a world

Nope I didn't watch the Wizard of Oz. It's just my Friday post, which is usually my HF4F post. I usually share 5 things from my week. This has been the only thought on my mind all week.
but it still doesn't stop me from complaining about it
I think I saw this....true story
I've encountered both
and we're back to its insanely hot
this is how I want to spend my weekend. But instead I am finally painting the girls room...wish me luck.

The Emmys vs. The Hollys

The nominees were announced for the 65th Emmy's. I was going to do a post where I gave my input on who I thought should win. After looking through the list I realized something. I don't give a shit about any of the nominees. Except maybe Best Actress in a Drama and that would be a tie Vera Farmigo (Norma Bates on Bates Motel) and Claire Danes (Carrie Mothison on Homeland) I don't actually get the channel Homeland is on but I love Claire from My so Called Life. So there you go out of all of the Nominees that is all  I care about. Which leads me to believe that I can't be the only person in the world thinking SO WHAT?!? Its the same few shows and the same few nominees and honestly I don't watch any of them. I'm guessing that is why the ratings are down for the Emmy's. After thinking long and hard. I have decided that The Emmy's are out. We need to create a new award show.....The Holly's. Winners won't be receiving a cool gold statue like this.
But they will receive a shot glass and a BIG green bottle.....oh wait that's me, not the winners....The winners get the satisfaction of knowing they don't suck.

If you have a fave program you would like to suggest feel free to do so. Nominees will be announced Next Thursday....Which just happens to be Hollyday.

I've seen lots of people talking about Birchbox but after looking into it I decided to pass on it. I love trying different products but the samples that come in birchbox didn't really jump out at me. After digging around I found Ipsy. What I like most about this is even if I hate every sample I get, it comes with a small bag. I am a bag addict. So I thought if nothing else at least I get a bag. I was disappointed that I saw several people get their bags before me.

I thought about writing a blog about the products and a review but honestly Jasmine did a great post so you should just visit her at Green Eyed Monster and read all about it.

I loved most of my products, but I wasn't crazy about the lip color. It was way to orange for this red head. But Abbey will love it.

Something BIG is happening

in 9 days the BIGGEST and BEST Hollyday of the entire year will be here. My birthday....you should have been able to guess when I said Hollyday. I know that everyone probably already knows this and already have my presents ready to ship....right?

Well just in case You don't here is a few things on my wish list.

This really needs to be my cake and I've already decided it needs to be made using Stephanie's cupcake recipes. Now to decide which recipe.
Ok to be fair I bought this Nine West purse yesterday. Becuase my birthday is coming up and I deserve it!

This should be obvious who doesn't want the zesty guy!
I also want this Nine West wristlet. Becuase sometimes I had carrying a big bag.
I would love a Silloutte too, but I keep talking myself out of it. I would hate to spend all that money and then not know how to really use it, and regret buying it. I've tried to win one on a few blogs but I suck at giveaways and don't even try anymore.

Can you hear me now?

Have you ever had one of those weekends where Friday was so full of fun and Jager that it took until Sunday to feel human again? Ummm me either.

But Monday morning is here way to fast and I wasn't prepared to write a post. So here is a rant....because its Monday and that a great day for a rant.

We had friends over on Friday night which made going to Va on Saturday not as much fun as it usually is. While we were there I overheard the weirdest conversation. A 35 year old woman complaining that her mom shut her cell phone off she was crying and asking why would she do such a thing.

Since I didn't rant to her which I am sure would have done no good I am going to rant to you....which will probably do about the same amount of good.

Here is why your mom would turn your phone off.

You are 35. Theoretically that means you are an adult. That means ACT LIKE IT. Have you ever heard fake it till you make it. Act like an adult and before you know it, you too can be paying your own bills like a champ. If you are an adult. Especially one with no kids (because kids are an expensive hobby) there is no reason that you should not be paying your own cell phone bill. I want to say all your bills but really unemployment is a reality for some and jobs are scarce. I understand believe me. We have several friends out of work and struggling...but do they whine that their parents aren't paying their bills? NO! They make ends meet the best they can.

But come on people, a cell phone isn't a necessity. It may seem like it, and to me it feels like it. But not so long ago we lived just fine without one. If its that big a deal to you, get a tracphone or other prepaid plan. But for the love of all that is sparkly and good stop mooching off your parents. As a parent I want to say we are in fact not made of money (I know its a shock) We have jobs but you should too. You are 35 not 5. Find a job! Or go back to school...or find a sugar daddy.....just stop draining your parents. If you take all of our money now, what will you do when we die and the inheritance you thought you were getting is gone?

Parents, stop enabling your kids. Making them struggle a little is good, it builds character. Here is a story. I was early 20's before I owned my own car. It didn't kill me. I borrowed my parents cars or caught rides with friends. It wasn't until a failed engagement left some some unexpected money (ie not earmarked for a wedding) that I could finally buy my own. I paid my own insurance. I had to pay it monthly because I couldn't afford it any other way but I did it. I did this working part time for minimum wage. You know what those days taught me? It taught me that I need to work for the things I want, because that is how the world works. It taught me to be patient because the world doesn't always hang you what you want when you want it. It taught me to take care of the things I have, because there might not be something better waiting around the corner. It taught me how to budget, because the world doesn't have money trees, or everything is free days. It taught me to be grateful for what I have. I wouldn't trade those lessons for anything. I want my children to have everything they want, and all their dreams to come true. But more than that I want them to be independent, self sufficient adults who are capable of not just surviving but excelling in the world.

If that means making her pay her portion of the cell phone plan once she of age to have a job and canceling it when she doesn't contribute then I will. I hope this 35 year old gets a clue soon.

Its Friday

In case you don't own a calendar.

After being off for almost 2 weeks coming back to work was crazy busy. I absolutely love my job and don't mine busy, but I've had to deal with some of the strangest people. Which have made my coworker and I laugh....so really I should stop complaining and enjoy the laugh.

Since Its Friday I assume you want a list of my favorite things from the week? If you don't that's ok I'm going to give them to you anyway.

1. I got this text this week. While I have no interest, because the last time was horrible and almost ended in me committing murder and I'm with Greg...but its still sweet.

2. I made my 101/1001 list. Now to just stay on top of it.

3. My boss came to visit and we looked at potential new offices that are actually in our town and not an hour away for me. I think it could happen. Just keep sending good thoughts. This place has someone renting the space we want but he should be out....except the space currently looks like this.
I'm thinking he won't be out by the end of the month.
4. Abbey's cat Katniss got out last week right before the 4th of July and had been missing for a week. I couldn't bare to tell the girls she was gone so I just kept avoiding it and let them think she was hiding. Wednesday I was thinking about how she had been gone a week and said a little prayer that if she was still alive could she please find her way home. I walked outside to leave for work and there she was. She looks like kitty skeleton but at least she is home again. And she is feasting on as much food as she wants.
5.I got the Dale Jr. cooler mostly made. It still needs the finishing coat that keeps it from chipping and it needs the checker flag top. I'm starting abbey a water jug for band. Since camp starts Monday I need to get hopping on that. The Dale Jr cooler was inspired by this.
Hopefully early next week you will see the finished product and tell me how close I got.
I think I want either cover the pink cooler or just make a new one. I think I want to take Tony Stewart to Bristol. I've been watching him all season well actually since Bristol last year when he threw his helmet and I think I can really support someone like him with all his road rage. Its like we are soul mates. :)
So what do you think, paint over the pink cooler or just make a new one that is all Tony? Or do neither and take the pink cooler to the race.
I've been thinking about changing the name of the blog. I have no idea to what...got any ideas? I really liked this name a year ago but I must be having a mid life crisis I am just not feeling it anymore. I watch Bar Rescue all the time and the first thing he does is change their lame name for something cool. What do you think?

I've tried this before and failed miserably. I think my biggest hurdle was that I had goals that were easily made invalid. I tried to make these new goals a little neutral. Gotta Love Tenessee

Fireworks that is. Its no secret that I live in Kentucky....wait maybe it was a secret. While we are the best at a lot of things.....horse racing, basketball, breeding country stars and cheerleaders. We are a complete epic fail at one big thing.....Ok two if you are counting football. (I'm hanging my head in shame).

We have  stupidly strict law on cool fireworks. Usually this isn't a problem, but the 4th just BEGS for cool fireworks. Something better than the glorified sparklers that KY sales.

This is where our wonderful and strategically planned Tennessee vacation came in handy. We loaded the car down with some cool fireworks. Never fear police that may be reading this I did NOT take this to Kentucky and shoot them off, making my neighbors insanely jealous. We shot them off at Greg's brothers house. Making his neighbors jealous because our fireworks were better than theirs.

Here is the top 5 things I learned while shopping and shoot off the fireworks.

1. Artillery is cool and is what makes all the pretty lights
2. Even though the firework shop pushes the package deal shop around for your own
3. More expensive is not always better. We spent 5 on something and it was WAAAAAY better than the one we spent 35 on.
4. Blowing stuff up is more fun than cleaning it up the next day.
5. If you are going to shoot off your fireworks waiting until your neighbors also do it, so you can have a battle of the boom

A vacation wedding

So Greg and I went on our first real vacation as a couple of course we also took the kiddies (3 years in the making). We had a blast. I've never had so much fun on a trip much less a vacation. We all did something that we wanted to do, no one fought. That is a miracle in itself. No one wanted to come back home we had that much fun. We had a great hotel. Our evenings were spent sitting on our balcony watching the river and the people walking to and from the hotel bar. That's when it happened....

A wedding. Of bikers. What does a biker (or at least this group) wear to a wedding? Their leathers of course. Except for the bride. She had on a pink lace fit and flare mini dress with matching cow girl boots. I think you may understand why I wasn't brave enough to take a picture of the happy couple and festive party.

I will share with you some other wedding related vacation pictures.
I think this should be mine and Greg's wedding cake topper. You know since the groom is obviously wearing a marching band uniform. Never mind that this is a salt and pepper shaker.
Don't get the wrong idea. We did not get married. As a blogger I can't just run off and get married. I have to share all the details with you (and I need the salt and pepper shakers as a cake topper). Although I did think it was funny to post this on my Facebook page and wait to see what happened. I got lots of what!???! Did you? Why didn't you tell me? And general whining that I didn't share my big day with everyone. Actually I just saw the shirt in a gift shop and wanted to mess with people. I'm mean that way.

this is what you get after a 2 week vacation

I haven't been around much. Thats what happens when you take an almost 2 week vacation. We spent 5 days in Tenessee and then for the 4th of July we went to Virginia and then finally spent some much needed time at home. I promise I will get around to giving you all the details. But first,  I have finally came up with my 101/1001 list. If you aren't familiar with it its a list of 101 things (goals) that you want to do in 1001 days. I will be posting these tomorrow and hope you follow along as I try to accomplish them all.

In the mean time. Have a wonderful Monday.

Today is my Monday

and it is hitting me hard. Must be the vacation hangover, but I have the Monday blues. I came to work to find someone left me a message everyday of my vacation telling me to call her back. She also called my counterpart in another part of the state and she called me while on vacation. Believe me when I say it was NOTHING important that one message and waiting wouldn't have worked. I do call people back.

Then I get a call that my office may be moving. By may, I mean will more than likely be moving. This move is an hour away from my house. I already work 30 minutes from home. I have no idea what I will do with the girls because I drop them off at their schools on my way to work but now that will put me getting to work much later and I have no idea how I will pick them up from school. Its a mess. I'm hoping there is a last minute Hail Mary that will save the day and keep me from driving an hour everyday to work.....Guess I know how I'd use all that raise money :(

So I am going to spend the rest of the day praying for a miracle.
